چکیده
The anal sphincter is made up of the internal and external sphincter, which are arranged concentrically around the anal canal; they overlap except in the most distal part of the anal canal in the region of the superficial part of the external sphincter. Continuous electromyographic (EMG) activity may be recorded in the external anal sphincter at rest (Floyd and Walls, 1953) but the external sphincter contributes only lo-15% of the resting anal pressure (Bennett and Duthie, 1964; Duthie and Watts, 1965; Frenckner and von Euler, 1975). An important function of the external anal sphincter is to reflexly contract in response to transient rises in intra-abdominal pressure (Taverner and Smiddy, 1959; Parks et al, 1962). This activity is mediated via a spinal reflex (Melzack and Porter, 1964). The external sphincter also contracts under voluntary control, thus allowing defaecation to be delayed until a socially appropriate

Neuropsychological and Neuropsychiatric Deficits Following Traumatic Brain Injury: Common Patterns and Neuropathological Mechanisms
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in all degrees of injury severity mainly induces deviant cognitive, emotional and behavioral alterations that lead to their respective disorders. This brief overview strives to define the variables that determine the risk of occurrence of these disorders and to describe the common patterns of these disorders and their relevant neuropathogenetic mechanism(s). In addi...
متن کاملGinseng Use in Medicine: Perspectives on CNS Disorders
Ginseng, the root of Panax species, is a well-known folk medicine. It has been used as traditional herbal medicine in China, Korea and Japan for thousands of years and today is a popular and worldwide used natural medicine. The active ingredients of ginseng are ginsenosides which are also called ginseng saponins. Recently, there is increasing evidence in the literature on the pharmacological an...
متن کاملTheory of mind and its neural mechanisms: A case study of Kurdish-Persian congenitally blind children in Ilam city
Introduction: Theory of mind is one of the most important aspects of cognitive faculty. The theory of mind is impaired in individuals who suffer from mental disorders like autistic children. The ‘autistic-like’ behaviors also have been reported in the congenitally blind children. This study was conducted to examine the presence or absence of theory of mind and its function in congen...
متن کاملEmergence of signs of neural cells after exposure of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells to fetal brain extract
Objective(s): Nowadays much effort is being invested in order to diagnose the mechanisms involved in neural differentiation. By clarifying this, making desired neural cells in vitro and applying them into diverse neurological disorders suffered from neural cell malfunctions could be a feasible choice. Thus, the present study assessed the capability of fetal brain extract (FBE) to induce rat bon...
متن کاملO 9: Immunomodulatory Effects of Neural Stem Cell on Multiple Sclerosis: A Systematic Review
Multiple sclerosis (MS) and its animal model, experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis (EAE), are chronic inflammatory demyelinating disorders of central nervous system (CNS). While the cause is unclear, the fundamental mechanism is thought to be destruction of myelin sheaths of neurons through immune system. One of the approaches being proposed in EAE therapy is neural stem cells (NSCs) trans...
